An Incredible Urban Photoshoot Location in Toronto for Dog and Family Photography: Underpass Park & Corktown Common
/I’m thrilled to share a hidden gem I recently discovered in downtown Toronto — a location that’s perfect for your next dog or family photoshoot. It’s actually two amazing locations in one: Underpass Park and Corktown Common. Together, they offer the best of both worlds — gritty, colourful urban backdrops alongside lush natural scenery — all within walking distance of each other in the heart of the city.
If you’re looking for photos that offer variety — from graffiti-covered pillars to wildflowers and open green space — this is the spot. These spaces are ideal for pet lovers and families who want a mix of edgy city vibes and soft, natural portraits in a single session.
I discovered these locations quite by accident during a recent photoshoot with Marcus of Red Seal Bullies, who commissioned me to photograph some of his stunning dogs. He suggested the area, and I’m so glad he did — what a find!
First Stop: Underpass Park
Located in the eastern part of downtown Toronto, Underpass Park is an unexpected recreational hub built beneath the city’s maze of highway overpasses. Once a neglected industrial space, it has been transformed into a vibrant public area featuring a children’s playground, basketball courts, skateboarding zones, and even a weekly farmers market.
What truly makes it stand out for dog and family photoshoots is the urban art. Towering concrete columns are wrapped in colourful murals and graffiti, turning the space into an open-air street art gallery. These vivid backgrounds bring incredible energy to your session and provide year-round colour — even on the greyest winter day.
Even better? The overhead expressways offer great rain protection, so the session can go on even if the weather doesn’t cooperate. There are also broad, flat rocks throughout the park that work beautifully for posing dogs or sitting with your family for portraits.
Here are a few photos from the session with the Red Seal Bullies pack at Underpass Park — just look at those colours!

Next Stop: Corktown Common — A Natural Escape in the Heart of the City
This park literally across the street from Underpass park. is Corktown Common, a stunning 18-acre park that feels like a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of urban Toronto. It’s hard to believe that this natural oasis is tucked right into the city’s east end, surrounded by the Canary District and the historic Corktown neighbourhood.
While Underpass Park offers the energy of the city, Corktown Common brings the balance with nature-filled serenity — making it a dream location for a photoshoot that tells a full story.
This park is full of variety for photography sessions. There are winding boardwalks, wildflower meadows, marshy wetlands, wide open grassy spaces, and even gentle hills that make a perfect perch for portrait moments.
It’s ideal for dogs who love to explore, and for families who want relaxed, candid shots with a more natural backdrop. Corktown Common provides endless opportunities for heartfelt images.
Together, Underpass Park and Corktown Common offer an unbeatable Toronto photoshoot location — all in one convenient and walkable downtown area. The contrast between urban grit and natural calm makes for a diverse and visually stunning gallery of images you’ll treasure for years.
