End of life dog photography in Milton, Ontario
/It was one of those emails that happen all too often when you are a dog photographer! Amanda contacted me to do an end of life dog photography session in Milton, Ontario.
They had received the unfortunate news that their beloved dog Riley had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and they had only 4 weeks left together.
As with most dog loving families, they had countless pictures of their dog on his own, but few of them as a family together.
Of course I immediately made time to fit them into my calendar as I do with all end of life dog photography sessions and we met up at Livingstone Park in Milton, Ontario.
When I asked Amanda what she loved most about Riley, she said that Riley “is a special combination of sweet and awkward. He loves to lay in the grass soaking in the sun, walks with all the sniffs and napping with his cozy blankets.”
And that seemed to be so true - he was definitely sweet! Riley was a real trooper and made my job as a photographer so easy! We took a short walk around the park stopping at the wonderful scenic spots to take photos of him and his human Mom and Dad. We even managed to get a few shots of Riley in action, despite his age and illness! These are sure to be wonderful memories for his family.
Why should you hire an end of life photographer for photos of you and your pet?
My focus as an end of life dog photographer is to document the authentic bond that you have with your beloved dog. Life moves so incredibly fast and when that time inevitably comes, as we know it will do, it’s so important to have photos with your dog to reflect back on.
As you can see from the photos of Riley and his family, these are not sad and depressing, but rather a celebration of the love that you share with your dog. It is these photos that help you in the grieving process as you go through the weeks and months after your dog has passed on.
Having photos of your dog and yourself together will help you to remember your pet with joy rather than sadness, and to enjoy these sweet reminders of the times you had together. They will help you to feel your dog’s presence in your life once he or she has passed on.
Your photo gallery will be full of the small details of you with your dog, showing your love and wonderful bond, as well as beautiful images of your dog on his or her own.

Livingstone Park in Milton, ON, had special meaning for Amanda and her husband as they used to take Riley for walks there. And it was a really great place for a photo session with its lovely old unused railway track that’s perfect for photos, as well as the bridge and pond and old mansion that make for an interesting backdrop.
