Why Every Kid Needs a Photoshoot with Their Dog
/I’ve loved dogs for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I had two amazing dogs, Happy and Cindy, who meant the world to me. They were my first best friends, always by my side through every adventure, every scraped knee, and every bedtime snuggle.
Sadly, I don’t have any photos to show for it, and that’s something I deeply regret. It was through them that my love of dogs truly began, and that’s why I’m so passionate about capturing the bond between kids and their furry best friends today.
Let’s be real—kids and dogs are chaos together. But it’s the best kind of chaos! They’re partners in crime, adventure buddies, and sometimes even secret-keepers.
That’s why I’m so passionate about capturing the bond between kids and their furry best friends today as a Toronto dog photographer. Capturing their bond in photos is one of the best gifts you can give your child (and yourself). It’s not just about getting a cute picture; it’s about freezing those fleeting moments of kids with their best furry friends before they grow up.
The Unbreakable Bond Between Kids and Their Dogs
Dogs play such a huge role in a child’s life. They’re cuddle companions after a tough day, the best playmates for backyard adventures, and sometimes even the pillow for an impromptu nap. Dogs teach kids responsibility, compassion, and what unconditional love really looks like. That’s why photographing kids with their pups is so meaningful—it captures those tiny, everyday moments that make childhood magical.
The Challenge of Photographing Kids and Dogs (And Why You Need a Pro)
As a dog photographer I’ve been told to never work with kids and animals together. And I have to admit - it’s a challenge!!!
It’s not as simple as just pointing a camera and saying “cheese.”
Kids wiggle. Dogs wiggle.
Here’s the reality of getting a good shot of a kid and a dog together…
Sometimes they both decide to run in opposite directions at the exact moment you hit the shutter. It’s a hilarious, adorable mess—but it can be frustrating if you’re trying to get a frame-worthy shot.
Sometimes the kids simply don’t co-operate and of course we can’t “put a leash on them” like we do with a dog.
That’s where a professional pet photographer comes in. We know how to work with both kids and dogs, keeping them engaged, happy, and most importantly—still (even if it’s just for a second!). We’ve got tricks up our sleeves, from squeaky toys to silly noises, to make sure we capture those genuine moments of love and laughter. More importantly, we know how to make the most of natural light, scenic backdrops, and those spontaneous, candid interactions that make the best photos.
Memories That Last a Lifetime
A professional photoshoot of your child with their dog isn’t just about getting pretty pictures—it’s about creating memories that will mean everything years down the line. Imagine your child as an adult, looking back at these images and remembering their childhood best friend. The dog who waited by the door when they got home from school. The one who licked away tears after a bad day. The one who made them laugh with goofy antics.
Dogs aren’t in our lives nearly long enough, but the memories we capture through photography can keep their spirit alive forever.
